The 2006 Mega-Watt A-List Hollywood Super-Duper Stars
Posted by admin
The dogs barked out loudly in 2006, celebrating the coming of their year while at the same time yelling the spell of good luck fortune to numbers of celebrities, including Sacha Baron Cohen, Brandon Routh, and Daniel Craig who them all successfully worked their way up the industry ladder diligently yet quickly. Reviewing the past year, AceShowbiz hand-picks extraordinary actors, actresses, musicians, and even athletes considered to be worth of praise.
Having made a name for oneself proves costly instead of easy. Yet our selected Hollywood figures have all proven no challenges could let them down. Let’s take a look at Baron Cohen. Notable for his highly successful comedy character Ali G, an MC and gangsta wannabe from Staines, Baron Cohen earned an amount of exposure with Borat, a character he created of a naive television reporter from Kazakhstan with a fervent hatred of Jews, an extreme hatred of gypsies (Roma people) and a misogynistic attitude. It was this role that earned the actor his breakthrough shortly after he brought the character to the controversial comedy “Borat”.
It is another matter with Brandon Routh. This self-called “momma’s boy” and not “the most popular kid” during his school years began his ride to stardom when he was chosen to play the lead role in the box office hit “Superman Returns”, a success that ended his steady work in the industry. Formerly thought a full-time acting career as unrealistic, the hunk should start thinking of pursuing it as his professional one as it does help catapulted him into an instant fame.
Our next worth to be praised star is Daniel Craig who shot to the full-fledged superstardom quirky. Named in the media as one possible contender to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, EON Productions finally signed him on to star in the highly anticipated flick “Casino Royale”. Be entitled to overflowing objections and protests from fans of the 007 film series over his becoming the first ever blonde Bond, this thespian ballsy gave it a go and successfully got into the shoes of his character, brought favorable global outcome to the film while also directed critical acclaim toward himself.
Not only the favorable result of the flick brought Craig to worldwide fame, but also it affected the acting career of the has-just-famous actress Eva Green. Previously gained fame for her portrayal in Ridley Scott’s “Kingdom of Heaven,” starring opposite Orlando Bloom, thanks God that she next was cast as “Bond girl” Vesper Lynd in “Casino Royale” that the screen darling was capitulated to her career peak, bringing herself some more notoriety.
The one happens to our next hero John Cena is atypical. The guy, widely popular as professional wrestler, arrived at his career breakthrough not in the smack down field but through acting. Thanks to his taking part in the 20th Century Fox’s action drama thriller “The Marine”, a good stepping stone for the reigning WWE Champion to land at 2nd spot on Yahoo’s annual list of Popular Search Terms of the year.
Acting aside, the year 2006 also witnessed the rapid popularity growth of numbers of musicians, like +44, Stacy Ferguson, Danity Kane, and Panic! At the Disco, just to name a few. Erected their own claim fame, the whole lot have been hard at work on their music effort to become the foremost in the business. Led the pack in busy period for new releases, +44 shot to the spotlight with their debut single “When Your Heart Stops Beating”. Comprised of such big names, as Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, both were the former members of the big-but-already-break up-band Blink-182, the Pop-Punk/Alternative rock band soon became a strong favorite among music lovers.
The next Most Breakthrough Celebrity in Entertainment is Stacy Ferguson. Took over the lead female vocal duties for the band, The Black Eyed Peas, it was her who initiated a whirlwind of success for the band, which had been playing unnoticed for years. Subsequently turned her sights on a solo career, Fergie speedily became one of the hottest female music artists of the year, thanks to the two hit singles she had on her solo debut album, “The Dutchess,” namely “London Bridge” and “Fergalicious”. Just like Fergie, American R&B girl group Danity Kane, formed through rapper P. Diddy’s “Making the Band”, shot right away to the spotlight soon after their self-titled debut album touched the market on August 22 and was subsequently certified Platinum, such a record for a brand new girl group.
Besides them all, good luck fortune also fell upon rock band Panic! At the Disco whose video for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” single won the Video of the Year award at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, beating out top artists such as Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Madonna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Greater than that, the success of the single itself also helped catapulted the band’s profile as its popularity brought the band’s eponymous album to be certified Platinum. The last, though not least, on the list of AceShowbiz’s Most Breakthrough Celebrities in Entertainment is Vanessa Minnillo. Formerly known simply as the 1998 Miss Teen USA, the young lady soon thereafter established a career in television, hosting TRL on MTV since 2003 and has from that point on become a household name while also making the headlines with her romance with divorce Nick Lachey.

Stay Comically Connected When Economically Affected
Posted by admin
It’s been quite a ride lately. If the economic spin cycle leaves you feeling hung out to dry, you’re not alone.
Since the global economy is so interdependent, the effects are felt everywhere. This can lead to worry, which without the proper fast-acting antidote can result in….stress!
How do we handle this without exploding?
I prescribe a generous dose of tickling the funny- bone, one of my preferred subjects. Technology is great, but even the most advanced computer can’t crack a joke or find the humor in a situation.
Laughter sends a signal to our brain that everything is okay. Our bodies relax, and the intelligent,
creative, problem-solving part of us spontaneously comes out to play.
Here are a few ideas:
At Work:
Have a joke of the day. Have a cartoon of the day. Give a prize for the best one. Bring a weird toy to work and give it to someone who does something productive. Answer the phone with an unexpected greeting, like “Proudly still in business! Can I help you with yours?” Leave funny cards on peoples’ desks. Leave them funny notes. Post outrageous notes on the bulletin board, like “Free Spam sandwiches for everybody!” Post funny quotes on the bulletin board, like the ones at the end of this letter.
At Home:
Watch your favorite sitcom, plus a new one. Ask the kids what weird thing happened in school. Answer the phone with something bizarre, like “Smith Family Home For The Bewildered!”
Send funny cards to people. Send funny cards to people anonymously. Play with a 4-year old. Rent funny movies. Visit a comedy club and expose yourself to comedians. (In a good way.)
Consider a Comedy Keynote Concert for your employees, like “Analog Brain In A Digital World:
Managing Stress With Humor.” These help us celebrate the best in ourselves and laugh at the
rest of ourselves. They provide empowering insights and soul-cleansing laughter. http://www.ComedyKeynoteConcerts.com
Remember: when we put our attention on what we can control (how we react to people and events), we don’t feel powerless.
QUOTES FOR THE QUOTABLE
“I know worrying works, because none of the stuff I worried about ever happened.”
-Will Rogers
“More people are killed every year by pigs than by sharks, which shows you how good we are at evaluating risk.”
–Bruce Schneier
“I have known a great many troubles in my life, most of which never happened.”

The Top 3 Comedy Clubs in Houston to See on Your Vacation
Posted by admin
Houston may be the home of big oil and cowboys but there is also a very lively comedy scene going on as part of the backdrop of provided by Houston’s nightlife. Comedy clubs have sprung up in the last ten years or so as audiences have demanded better comedies and more performances than the restricted venues were able to provide but it is the older clubs which still dominate the scene in Houston.
If you are a looking for a great night out with good food and excellent food and drink, then a trip to one of the top three comedy spots in Houston is just what the doctor ordered to cure any blues and to set the seal on a great visit to Houston.
Here are the top three comedy nightclubs for you to enjoy in Houston.
The Improve
The Improve has been making them laugh for over 20 years and has a stable of top grade comedians on hand to make sure you laugh the night away. Food is served in the evening with a restricted menu available during the day - make sure you enquire with the venue prior to booking and note there is also a restricted menu available depending on where you sit. One nice touch is that the management has split the venue up into separate sections for smokers and non-smokers.
Minimum age for entry is 18 but remember you must be over 21 to drink alcohol in Texas.
Dinner reservations get priority on the seats but otherwise it is a first come-first served basis so you are recommended to get there early if you want to be sure of getting in. Like the other two comedy venues in Houston, it is commonly sold out so don’t leave it to chance.
The venue is located near downtown Houston and paid valet parking is available if you don’t feel like a short walk from the mall within which the club is located though there is also free parking at the rear of the venue too.
Laff Spot
The Laff Spot runs shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and combines some of the best comedy acts in town with excellent jazz and fine food. Unlike the Improv which is comedy at its rough and readiest, the Laff Spot is a refined establishment and the food and service are excellent. The club is also completely non-smoking and there is a full waitress service on offer while parking is plentiful in the vicinity.
One feature offered by the Laff Spot is a defensive driving course taken by customers with the team of comedians - the joke is that the certificate you come away with is recognized state and country wide and may end up getting you a reduction in your driver’s insurance premiums!
Houston’s Laff Stop
This is perhaps the premier Houston comedy club and certainly the most expensive. Class comedy acts which are nationally recognized frequently use the Laff Stop as the venue for the Houston leg of their tour and you are well advised to check who is playing before you make a booking. The club claims to be Houston’s laughter central and probably this is not an idle boast but competition amongst the established clubs is fierce!
Food and drink are plentiful too and you can enjoy a great evening’s entertainment which also includes plenty of time for music and dancing if you are not inclined to simply have gags thrown at you while sitting around all evening. Comedy show nights are Thursday, Friday and Saturday while they have an open mic night on Wednesdays if you are brave enough to face a crowd for real from the other side of the stage lights.

How to Fit the Right Humor to the Right Audience
Posted by admin
A joke has two parts: a set-up (premise) and a punch-line (pay-off).
In comedy club humor you can push the envelope with subject material, your language, etc.
People are drunk, looser, and give you the benefit of the doubt.
Of course, there’s a different mindset when you are in a corporate environment — presenting a comedy show or speaking to the rank and file staff. People are uptight… they’re in work mode… and no company president wants to get sued by his employee for a rude racist remark made by a comedian or speaker during work hours. (See Michael Richards)
I think you know we live in a politically correct society…yes, albeit, a little anal retentive one.
Okay, a lot! But there are rules. Whether you’re speaking to people that have bought your book or you’re training employees at Westinghouse… you MUST (or should) know the psychological make-up or demographics of your listeners.
Here’s an example. It’s a political joke. Now I don’t know if you’re Republican or Democrat…but understand that Humorists are equal opportunity offenders. We ‘knock’ and find fault with all of society. I am trying to be very bi-partisan here.
‘When it comes to America’s politics - dealing with the Democrats and Republicans, don’t you feel that with all their mud slinging and ‘broken promises’ that you’re at the point where you’re just trying to figure out which one is ‘Evil’ or ‘Less Evil’?
Now THAT was a moderate joke (or an attempt at one). With that joke, I am empowering my audience to make a decision. Because I know, in an election year, that’s what is on everyone’s mind, and what they’re trying to figure out!
Here’s a Bush joke I wrote a while back during his re-election.
‘Folks our country is divided. Some Americans think Bush is the worst President this country’s ever had…and others think he’s the best President this country’s ever had. Are you kidding? He’s not even the best President in his own family.’
Now if you’re a Bush fan - PLEASE - keep an open mind about this joke. If you’re left winger - you will undoubtedly laugh at it. (A friend who wrote for Letterman wanted to buy it from me.)
If you’re a right winger you probably won’t like it — but you still might appreciate the ‘truthfulness’ of the joke.
When I performed at a black tie Republican right wing military college… you just KNOW I didn’t do that joke (or any Bush jokes). They might’ve rushed the stage and burned me at the stake–or ask me for a party donation!
BUT I might use that particular joke in Florida where there’s lots of seniors who are not huge fans of ‘W.’ My point is…know the wants, needs, and desires of your audience. Know the boundaries that you can leap over or should avoid like a drunk uncle at a wedding.
Make the time to have a discussion with the person who hired you - so you have no concerns, aggravation, or regrets later on about certain ’subject material.’
Remember: part of your job as a speaker is to make the event planner who contracted you look like a genius for using you. (You do want to get paid, don’t you?)
When in doubt - leave it out! (Especially when it comes to religion or politics (priestsâ¦pedophiles…politicians that are pedophiles…you get the idea.)
Remember: when youâre speaking, use humor to attract -NOT distract from your message…If you insist on being controversial then go for it and have plenty of ammunition to back it up.
Here’s another joke that crosses all boundaries that I use when I have a mixed audience or an audience of boomers. (It’s fail safe.)
‘You know folks…I know I am getting older. I remember when Michael Jackson was black.’
This gets a huge response because the audience is - yes — thinking the exact same thing! And Sir Michael is a controversial celebrity at best.
Remember: Victor Borge once said, (and he said this when he was alive) ‘Humor is the closest point between two people.’
Use it wisely, Grasshopper!

Entertainment, Restaurants and Bars in Leicester
Posted by admin
The diversity of ethnicities and cultures in Leicester makes it one of the most varied and vibrant cities in the country. The substantial Asian community has brought with it many interesting events which the city enjoys supporting. Complementing the traditional Christian festivities Leicester now also celebrates festivities such as Holi, Diwali, Eid-ul-Fitr and of course the Chinese New Year.
Bars and Pubs:
Partly due to it having two large universities close by the city centre, Leicester cityâs bars and clubs are numerous and give a thriving and pulsating feeling to it. Bar and club names can change quite frequently, but this helps to keep the sense of vibrancy in the city in that there is always something new on offer. The Firebug is probably as complete a pub experience as you can get anywhere. The NME student guide for 2005 described it as “A real find for blinding food, beer, tough pub quizzes and lots of live music.” Here there is food to complement the 157 drinks lines they sell, regular live music, access to âWiFiâ throughout the premises and Pub Quizzes. Firebug is on Millstone Lane between the Council Offices and the old Town Hall. The Bambu, on the Welford Road below the Council Offices, describes itself as a relaxing café lounge bar blending mystery and sophistication without pretence. The Aqualounge on Wellington Street, more or less opposite the Council Offices is a bar, club and restaurant on 3 floors in one building, with Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights being the club nights. Moving away from the area around the Council offices, in Braunstone Gate, thereâs the Loaf which styles itself as a pub to âloaf around inâ, slow-down, have a drink and let the world go by. If you want a traditional city centre pub, then head for the Globe on Silver Street. Built in 1720 it serves fine draught ales, decent food and has a warm and charming atmosphere.
Restaurants:
There is in Leicester what is known as the âGolden Mileâ of Asian food, to which people are drawn from miles around for a truly authentic Asian eating experience. The Golden Mile is centred along the Belgrave Road, leading north out of the city from the Haymarket bus station. Some people would say the nearer to the bus station a place is, the better the restaurant will be. Friends is an award winning Tandoori restaurant with main courses ranging from only £5 to £12. Nearby is Sanjayâs Curry Pot which specialises in the Indian/Portuguese cuisine of the Goa region in India. It is one of the oldest established Asian restaurants in Leicester; prices for a main course are typically between £5 and £13. Moving away from the Belgrave Road and into the city centre, there is the Opera House, which is by the Cathedral in Guildhall Lane. This is well known for its imaginative menus and the sumptuous building in which it is housed. Alongside the market in Hotel Street is The Case, another stylish and contemporary restaurant, which also has a champagne bar in which you can order snacks and light meals. Although technically a bar and restaurant, Mobius, on Braunstone Gate, serves an excellent mix of Mediterranean and Thai cuisine. Itâs a relaxing place to eat and produces authentic flavours for the regional food it produces by using only the best produce.
Entertainment:
The De Montfort Hall is probably the best known venue Leicester has, almost a âtrade-markâ venue for the city. Built in 1913 and recently refurbished, it can accommodate an audience of 1500 seated or up to 2200 standing. As well as the indoor hall there is an outdoor amphitheatre that can house up to 5000. It has played host to classical, jazz, blues, folk, rock and pop music as well as being a venue for touring musical shows. In recent years it has also been increasingly used for conferences and exhibitions.
The Haymarket theatre in Leicester was one of the well known repertory theatres in the country. Closed at present, a new theatre is currently being built on Halford Street which is due to open in spring 2007. However, complications in the building programme look as if that opening date will now be postponed.
The Phoenix Arts Centre on Newarke Street is a small community venue providing a wide variety of entertainments. It is mainly used for showing films and hosting touring comedy and musical acts. However, it can also be used for theatrical plays and musical productions. There is, of course, a café/bar, which also hosts musical performances.
For live music, apart from at the De Montfort Hall, The Charlotte on Oxford Street is probably the biggest and best known. A fledgling Oasis played here many years ago! This is the venue in Leicester where youâll first see the up and coming âIndieâ bands.
There are currently some 13 nightclubs to choose from in Leicester. Worth mentioning here is the Po Na Na, which apart from its interesting name, is well known for being the place to go for Funk and House music. Two floors with two separate sound systems make this a savvy and party spirited place to be. Po Na Na is in Carey Close near the Jewry Wall.
Leicester has three comedy clubs; Jongleurs (Granby Street), Ship of Fools (using a variety of stages including the Phoenix Arts Centre, and Bottle Rocket (at the Firebug bar).

Bollywood Movie Review - Lage Raho Munnabhai
Posted by admin
Okay fingers up, how many of you have seen this movie? May not be a blockbuster or a box office hit hindi movie but it is definitely worth a watch. Perhaps more than once. Why? Just imagine, Sanjay Dutt tackling his enemy by following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. For the uninitiated, he is a beefcaked bollywood actor with a really mean mafia look who looks like a former Brisbane Lions regular player. I was refering to the former of course.
This is definitely one of my favourite movies as the story, screenplay and entertainment factors are brought up very well. This movie goes down as one of the most meaningful movies in Indian film industry. The essence of the movie is about applying the teachings of Gandhi in today’s world and downright hilariousness is ensured from the pairing of Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt. Hahaha… watch it. No seriously… watch it.
Story:
This is the second installment to the Munnabhai MBBS movie series. The kind hearted don, Munnabhai (played by Sanjay Dutt), researches day and night on Mahatma Gandhi in order to impress the lady of his dreams and that is when Gandhi appears in front of him either as a soul or a figment of Munnabhaiâs hallucination. An adventure then starts in a meaningful way for him where he learns how to deal with people and their problems by applying Gandhiâs principles.
Screenplay:
Perhaps the sole challenge of the movie is the application of Gandhiâs philosophy to solve todayâs people related problems and it is carried out so well in the movie. The comic timing of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is flawless. Boman Irani, in his typical fashion of doing something different in each movie, contributes further to the comedy by portraying a very stereotypical image of a Sardar. Even though the comedy does justice to the entertainment factor on a high scale, it does not deviate from the central theme and is able to deliver all the messages beautifully.
Cinematography:
Cinematography is done fairly well according to a typical Indian movie standard.
Video Editing:
There is not much video editing for the movie since there is no need for it. It is mainly focused in songs, especially in the Pal Pal song sang by Bollywood melody queen, Shreya Ghoshal.

How to Stop Being an Average Guy and Become a Master of Attraction
Posted by admin
You’re probably like most other guys. An average guy. A decent, hard-working fellow that is nice, neat, and respectful. You listen to her attentively. You’re polite and cautious with what you say and do. There’s only one problem:
Average equates to boring.Â
Don’t get me wrong. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with any of the things that are mentioned above. It’s just that they don’t make you stand out from the crowd. Keep being decent, hardworking, and the rest of it. Well, you might want to rethink the cautious with what you say and do. This is where loosening up will be a big improvement.
The fastest way to stand out in a crowd is to be funny. The second way is knowing what to do to have fun. The first can be a little tricky to master, but the second is a matter of talking and asking questions, then listening to answers. Which is interesting conversation.Â
When you find out what other people, girls in particular, like to do, become the supplier of that fun. If they like to talk about politics, suggest going to a political rally and follow it up with a discussion at a local pub. If the group of girls you have been talking with like comedy, suggest going to a comedy club for the evening. Become the guy who’s knowledgeable about what’s going on around town. The guy that knows how to make a good time. The guy that everyone goes to. That’s not average.Â
Standing out from the crowd can take many forms. The point is that anyone can do average. Making yourself special is a way to become more attractive to the opposite sex. You will stand out in her mind, and that’s what you want. And you’ll never be average again.
