Watch Satellite TV on Pc – One Notch Up!
Posted by admin
To watch satellite TV on PC is a luxury no one would imagine could happen so soon. A few years ago, people started debating about the merits of watching satellite over cable TV. Today, the contention carries on. Letâs enter the battlefield of the two major giants and decide for ourselves if there is any clear winner or perhaps to watch satellite TV on PC is the future of TV viewing.
There are two camps of TV viewers, one who are loyal followers of cable or digital TV, while the other group consists of die hard fans of satellite. To be fair, satellite television offers arguably better quality in terms of TV programs. However, cable has an advantage in terms of pricing in most cases. One set back of satellite television is perhaps in its installation. Typically, you would need to install a satellite dish, receiver, etc in order to start receiving TV programs. But this is easily overcome since many satellite service providers also provide free installation as part of the package you subscribe for. Both fare equally in terms of its availability in different geographical states.
Satellite TV folks would complain about the disruption in the TV reception during storms but cable TV viewers are not spared either. So it seems that this little hiccup is a common problem both camps suffer from occasionally. This more or less levels the playing field.
As they continue to compete in terms of availability of service, quality and variety of TV programs and pricing, satellite TV is fast emerging as the choice of many viewers. Other than normal TV entertainment, it offers you a formidable combination of entertainment, information, movies and traditional channels. You can watch any program from comedy to drama, sports news and science documentaries using satellite. If you prefer to keep abreast with current affairs in your country or international news, satellite television can offer you these programs from hundreds to thousands of worldwide channels. Even your children can be kept occupied with the interesting and educational kids channels.
We have looked at both ways to watch TV. Now, to watch satellite TV on PC is like marrying the two popular ways of TV viewing. All you need is a broadband internet connection, a desktop or laptop and special proprietary software installed onto your PC, and you can watch satellite TV on PC in a matter of minutes. This removes the need for messy installation you have come to associate with traditional satellite dish set up.
Broadband internet connection is rarely disrupted and this also insinuates that TV viewing should be smooth and free from interruptions most of the time. You no longer have to worry about catching up on the missed episode of Prison Break because of a broken transmission. Finally, the cost you are ever going to pay is the one-time purchase of the software used to watch satellite TV on PC.
With so many obvious benefits, this new kid on the block seems to be the future of TV viewing. Visit my blog to read about the software that has allowed millions of viewers to watch satellite TV on PC.

A Guide to New York City Theater Tickets

A Guide To New York City Theater Tickets
New York City is globally known for the variety of entertainment it offers, and its theaters. When one thinks of New York City theaters, one only thinks of Broadway. New York City theatrical performance and Broadway are synonymous, though there are theaters outside the famous ‘Theater District,’ as well as outside Manhattan. The Theater District is spread from 53rd to 42nd streets, between 6th and 8th Avenues. New York City theater tickets are best obtained from ticket brokers, if you have been unable to obtain them from the box office.
The Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) has categorized theaters in New York City as Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway. The Broadway theaters offer large-scale productions. These productions star professional actors and, at times, big stars. New York City theater tickets on Broadway often range from $35 to $40, with premium seats near the orchestra costing anything from $80 to $100. Broadway theaters have a seating capacity ranging from 500 to 2000.
Theaters having a seating capacity ranging from 100 to 499 seats are designated as Off-Broadway. Here, those plays and shows are showcased which Broadway feels would not be big commercial successes. The plays and shows offer a variety in styles and subjects. Theaters having a seating capacity of less than 100 are designated as Off-Off-Broadway, and offer very low budget shows. These are often very creative theater.
Buying Broadway Theater Tickets
Normally, a lot of planning goes into buying New York City theater tickets, especially on Broadway. Tickets are often booked months in advance. You select a show, book your tickets, and consult the seating plan to select seats of your choice. This is all fine when you have planned in advance. But, what do you do when you need to see a show at a very short notice?
You may be a visitor to New York on a short stay, or you need to take an important client for a show. Your best bet is contacting a reputable broker who deals in New York City theater tickets. This is the only way to obtain tickets for your favorite show on the New York City’s theater circuit without any advance planning. Tickets for shows, such as Jersey Boys, Mary Poppins, Wicked, Tarzan, etc are at a premium and can easily be had through a reliable and reputed broker.
Today, most brokers dealing in New York City theater tickets offer tickets through their online resources. You get in touch with an online ticket broker, fill in the details, make your payments through your credit or debit card, and in most cases your tickets are delivered to your doorstep.
New York City theater tickets bought through a broker is, of course, more expensive than the original price on the ticket. This involves the cost incurred by the broker in arranging the tickets for you, and his profit, too. Most brokers for New York City theater tickets are licensed, and are members of the National Association of Ticket Brokers. Ensure that you pick up such a broker for your tickets.
Who Are The Harlem Globetrotters?
Posted by admin
The Harlem Globetrotters are a basketball team that combines athleticism and comedy to create one of the best-known sports entertainment franchises in the world. Created by Abe Saperstein in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the team adopted the name Harlem because of its connotations as a leading African-American community. Over the years it has toured over 118 countries, playing more than 20,000 exhibition games, mostly against deliberately ineffective opposition like the Washington Generals (1953-1995) and the New York Nationals (1995-present).
There is no clear consensus as to the very beginnings of the Globetrotters. The official history contains several facts which are clearly untrue, such as the team being organized in 1926 in the Savoy Ballroom, which opened in 1927. What is clear is that the genesis of the Globetrotters takes place in the South Side of Chicago in the 1920s, where all the original players grew up. Most, if not all of the original players attended Wendell Phillips High School. When the Savoy Ballroom opened in November of 1927, one of the premier attractions was the Savoy Big Five, a basketball team that played exhibitions before dances.
In 1928, several players left the team in a dispute over bringing other players who had left the team back. That fall, several players led by Tommy Brookins formed a team called the “Globe Trotters” which would tour Southern Illinois that winter. A white man named Abe Saperstein became involved with the team, though to exactly what extent is unclear. In any event, by 1929 Saperstein was touring Illinois and Iowa with his basketball team, called the “New York Harlem Globe Trotters”. Saperstein decided to pick Harlem as their home city since Harlem was considered the center of African-American culture at the time, and an out of town team name would give the team more of a mystique. After four decades of existence, the Globetrotters played their first “home” game in Harlem in 1968.
The first star player of those early Globe Trotters (the name would be merged into one word later on was Albert “Runt” Puller, an adept dribbler and shooter. Soon he would be joined by 6′3″ Inman Jackson, who played center and had a flair for showboating. They would originate the two roles that would stay with the ‘trotters for decades, the showman and the dribbler.
The Globetrotters were initially a serious competitive team, and despite a flair for entertainment, they would only clown for the audience after establishing a safe lead in the game. In 1940, they accepted an invitation to participate in the World Professional Basketball Tournament. Defeating the New York Rens in the semi-finals, they advanced to the championship game, where they beat the Chicago Bruins in overtime by a score of 31-29.
The Globetrotters beat the premier professional team, George Mikan and the Minneapolis Lakers, for two games in a row in 1948 and 1949, with the Lakers winning the third contest. The February 1948 win (by a score of 61-59, on a buzzer beater) was a hallmark in professional basketball history, as the all-black Globetrotters proved they were on an equal footing with the all-white Lakers. Momentum for ending the NBA’s color line grew, and in 1950, Chuck Cooper became the first black player drafted by an NBA team. From that time on the Globetrotters had increasing difficulty attracting and retaining top talent.
The Globetrotters gradually worked comic routines into their act until they became known more for entertainment than sports. The Globetrotters’ acts often feature incredible coordination and skillful handling of one or more basketballs, such as passing or juggling balls between players, balancing or spinning balls on their fingertips, and making unusual, difficult shots.
Among the players who have been Globetrotters are NBA (National Basketball Association) greats Wilt “The Stilt” Chamberlain, Connie “The Hawk” Hawkins and Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, as well as Marques Haynes, George “Meadowlark” Lemon, Jerome James, former Temple coach John Chaney, and Reece “Goose” Tatum. Another popular team member in the 1970s and 1980s was Fred “Curly” Neal who was the best dribbler of that era of the team’s history and was immediately recognizable due to his shaven head. Baseball Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, Ferguson Jenkins and Lou Brock also played for the team at one time or another. Another famous former player is comedy legend Bill Cosby who had a contract with the Globetrotters when he was younger.[citation needed] In 1985, the Globetrotters signed their first female player, Olympic gold medalist Lynette Woodard, and their second, Joyce Walker, just three weeks later.
Because virtually all of its players have been African American, and because of the buffoonery involved in many of the Globetrotters’ skits, they drew some criticism in the Civil Rights era. The players were derisively accused of “Tomming for Abe”, a reference to Uncle Tom and white owner Abe Saperstein. However, prominent civil rights’ activist Jesse Jackson came to their defense by stating, “I think they’ve been a positive influence. (…) They did not show blacks as stupid. On the contrary, they were shown as superior.”
During the 1970s and 1980s, the team was controlled by Metromedia and, in addition to their touring and playing the Washington Generals or the New York Nationals, were featured in numerous television series and specials, including appearances in live-action variety shows and several Hanna-Barbera cartoons (see “Media” section below).
After a period of decline the Globetrotters franchise was purchased by former team member Mannie Jackson in 1993, and its fortunes revived again. In 2002 the team was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
To try to offset the criticism that they do not play “real basketball”, in recent years the Trotters have scheduled games against college teams and pickup teams like Magic Johnson’s All Stars with varying results. This renews a tradition of playing NBA teams, which the Globetrotters did during the 1950s.
The Harlem Globetrotters visited Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in November of 2000 and named the Pontiff an Honorary Harlem Globetrotter.
Are You A Victim Of Occupational Eczema?
Posted by admin
Skin diseases that are caused by contact with chemicals related to your work are called occupational skin diseases.
In order to diagnose these types of skin diseases, you will have to work closely with your dermatologist. You will need to pinpoint the condition first appearance and what triggers make it worse.
Occupational skin diseases may be furthered by irritants you are using at home. The most common occupational eczema include: allergic contact dermatitis, hives (contact urticaria), and irritant contact dermatitis.
What is allergic contact dermatitis?
Allergic contact dermatitis is not only common but has a huge list of potential suspects behind it. Allergens may be aromatic chemicals, caustic chemicals, metals, organic chemicals, plants, plant extracts or any combination of these. Haptens, simple chemicals that require a protein bond to become an antigen, are the most common culprits.
The immune system is a factor in allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), meaning that people who have weakened immune systems are more susceptible to ACD, which makes age a factor in diagnosis.
Depending on location and chronic qualities, the appearance of ACD varies. Most symptoms include: blisters (of all sizes), cracking, flaking, inflammation, papules, redness, and swelling. Common body areas for manifestation include: ears, face, feet, hands, and neck. Common culprits include:
Adhesives.
Beauty Products, including cosmetics, skin/hair care
Chemicals
Dyes
Jewelry
Latex based products
Plants (and plant derivatives)
Rubber based products
Typically, treatment of ACD includes: identifying the allergen and finding/following ways to avoid it which may include substitution of a different product. Topical medication in the form of corticosteroids will relieve symptoms.
What are Hives (contact urticaria)?
Hives can be caused by either allergens or caustic substances and can attack people with atopic dermatitis very easily. For example, a person who works at a cosmetics counter and is required to wear that product may have more trouble if they have atopic dermatitis. Treatment for this form of occupational eczema is the same as for allergic contact dermatitis.
What is irritant contact dermatitis?
Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common form of occupational eczema and affects exposed areas of skin (arms, face, hands, and neck). It can just bed a reddish patch of chapped skin or it can be as bad as skin ulcers. Itching is extreme and scratching seriously worsens the flare up.
An inherited overactive response to triggers is one cause longer life spans and more severe symptoms in patients with atopic dermatitis. These triggers can be temperature/precipitation, friction, chemical irritants and stress. The number of potential irritants is very large and on-the-job contact may be with one or more:
Adhesives/glues
Alkalis
Aromatic chemicals
Asphalt
Bacteria
Bathroom cleaning products
Chemical salts
Foods
Fungi
Gases
Glass fibers
Lubricants
Metals
Plants/derivatives
Soaps and detergents
Solvents
Tar
Irritant contact dermatitis is treated the same as allergic contact dermatitis, but the addition of exposure modification and protection are critical, as is educating the workers.
With any form of occupational eczema, it is as important to be aware of possible infections as it is with other forms of dermatitis. This is especially true for people who work in agriculture, food processing, food preparation (restaurants/cafeterias), health care, school systems, and veterinary medicine. The tendency of the skin to get broken open through scratching allows infection to attack your already deprived immune system with ease.
Consultation with a doctor is important for diagnosis. Skin infections, whether bacterial, fungal, or viral can mimic eczema but can be cured and may be contagious; eczema is not. Prompt treatment of these infections can lead to further complications and spread of the infection.
Other Occupational Skin Conditions
Acne: comedogenic products, such as theatrical cosmetics, industrial oils, cooking oils can cause acne. Comedogenic means that the pores are plugged with an oily substance, which becomes apparent through both black and white heads.
Apparel with rubber lining (such as hard hats and rubber straps for carrying tools) may also be comedogenic in some occupations.
Frictional dermatitis: this is caused by repetition in handling of necessary tools for the job. For example, a worker who sews the tags on blue jeans may get frictional dermatitis from the constant movement of the denim against her hands/arms.

Mexican Films, From Obscurity to a Bright Future (part 1)
Posted by admin
The âGolden Ageâ of Mexican cinema, was during the 1940âs, when movie stars, such as Pedro Infante and Delores Del Rio came to prominence, captivating native audiences. Consequently, there was a high demand from an enthusiastic movie-going public and the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) produced a series of successful movies.
Despite the local popularity at the time, Mexican cinema was not strongly embraced by International audiences, receiving only minor recognition. This was a trend that was to continue into the latter half of the 20th Century, contributing to the gradual decline of Mexican cinema, to the point of contempt from those who once celebrated it.
Nuevo Cine Mexicano (New Mexican Cinema) were the words of the 1990âs, that offered a ripple of hope to the fading industry. Ambitious and visionary directors, such as Alfonso Cuarón, Arturo Ripstein and Alfonso Arau, breathed new life into Mexican cinemaâs stale conventions with their innovative ideas and unique styles. Noteable examples of this new movement are Como agua para chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) (1992) and Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (Sex, Shame and Tears) (1999), both of which were well received by the Latin American public. As the 20th Century came to an end, it appeared that Mexican cinema was finally on the incline again.
The arrival of the new millenium proved this was not a false dawn, as it stirred the ripple of cautious hope into a wave of excitement, that flooded Hollywood and continued, unrelenting, to Europe. The reason for the excitement was Amores Perros (Loveâs a Bitch) (2000), the movie which heralded the beginning of a Mexican revolution, that would prove to be far reaching in its scope.
Amores Perros was a massive critical success on its release, being lavished with praise from one end of the globe to the other and well worthy of it. This level of impact is achieved by skilled and insightful writing from Guillermo Arriaga, magnificent performances from a talented cast, particularly Gael Garcia Bernal and by the masterful González Iñárritu, as he interweaves the disparate story lines with awe inspiring flair.
The movie went on to win 51 awards worldwide, with a further 14 nominations. These included an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 2001, a BAFTA win in the same category (2002) and the Cannes Critics Week Grand Prize in 2000. In addition, it provided a respectable profit for IMCINE, as it was produced for approximately $2 million and ultimately grossed an estimated $21 million worldwide.
Amores Perros gained Alejandro González Iñárritu recognition for his direction and served as the launch pad for his career. Its critical acclaim prompted an offer from BMW to join an assembly of reputable directors in making a series of short movies promoting their vehicles. González Iñárrituâs input was Powder Keg (2001), starring Clive Owen. In 2002, he was invited to direct a segment for another compilation, 11′09”01 - September 11 (2002), focusing on the aftermath of September 11th. Its subsequent success opened the doors of Hollywood to González Iñárritu, which he modestly entered. Then, in 2003, he brought in Amores Perros writer Guillermo Arriaga to pen his first US production, 21 Grams (2003).
Alejandro González Iñárritu may have been enticed away from Mexico, but Mexican cinema continued to gather momentum in his absence, through the talents of his close friend Alfonso Cuarón.
When Amores Perros was released in 2000, Alfonso Cuarón had already experienced some success. Firstly, with Sólo con tu pareja (Love in the Time of Hysteria) (1991), then he laid down his marker in Hollywood with two modest, but impressive, projects A Little Princess (1995) and Great Expectations (1998). Each of these movies showcased his distinct visual style and flair for storytelling.
In 2001, he made his contribution to the reinvigorated Mexican industry by co-writing and directing the coming of age comedy/drama Y tu mamá también (And Your Mother Too) (2001), starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. This movie did not reach the critical heights of Amores Perros, but it proved to be a bigger commercial success than its predecessor. After Y tu mamá también, Cuarónâs reputation flourished and it was not long before he felt the draw of Hollywood again.
Off the back of two tremendous performances in Amores Perros and Y tu mamá también, Gael Garcia Bernal received very favourable publicity. In the former, he displayed his exceptional dramatic capabilities and in the latter, his natural charisma and talent for light comedy. His next major project was the controversial drama El Crimen del padre Amaro (The Crime of Father Amaro) (2002), a movie which presented him with an opportunity to substantiate his growing reputation as Mexicoâs hot new star. Garcia Bernal emerged triumphant, as the movie proved to be a big success and earned him the award for male revelation of the year at the Cannes Film Festival. Soon after completing El Crimen del padre, Gael Garcia Bernal departed Mexico to pursue other enterprises. However, he left behind a film industry that had regained its dignity after many years of obscurity.
Back in the US, González Iñárritu was given creative freedom over 21 Grams, a sign of the confidence the producers had in him. Also, he was able to secure the services of Hollywood heavyweights Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio Del Toro. The result of this collaboration is an uncompromising study of the essence of humanity, which extracts every ounce of emotion from you. Guillermo Arriaga once again displays his enormous talent for dramatic writing and should take some credit for González Iñárrituâs rise to prominence.
Despite its unconventional style, 21 Grams performed well at the Box Office, grossing an estimated $60 million, from a budget of around $20 million. Also, it enjoyed very favourable critical reviews, which lead to two Oscar nominations, for Del Toro and Watts, and five BAFTA nominations, including Best Original Screenplay for Arriaga.
After the success of 21 Grams, it was Alfonso Cuarónâs opportunity to woo the international audiences, when Warner Brothers invited him to direct the third Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).
The fantasy elements of the Harry Potter books enabled Alfonso Cuarón to fully explore his fertile imagination and, in this movie, he expresses himself with stunning visual flamboyance that echoes the beauty of A Little Princess (1995). Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban provided Cuarón with his largest Box Office success to date, grossing an estimated $790 million worldwide.

Smallville’s John Glover to Star on Broadway
Posted by admin
Smallvilleâs John Glover has been an expert when it comes to television series, movies and theatrical productions. But more importantly, he is a renowned professional when it comes to Broadway shows, evident in his acquisition of the role of “Man in Chair” on the production of “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
“The Drowsy Chaperone,” created by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, is popularly known for being a Tony-award winning production. The world-famous play centers on a vain showgirl, who is about to marry a man she only just met, and her producer, who does not want to lose his precious starlet. The said musical have also garnered countless nomination and has acquired a number of worldwide recognitions and acclamations.
This should be a simple and uncomplicated venture for this theatre buff that has previously starred in a number of Broadway and off-Broadway shows, not to mention films and TV projects. Spending majority of his acting career in theatre, Glover takes this opportunity as an invigorating pep up and affirmation of his successful acting profession.
On the show Smallville, Glover plays Lex Luthorâs father, Lionel Luthor, who is perceived as a deceitful and corrupt but very powerful person. Armed with abundant resources, he utilizes his wealth and influence to entice and lure illicit deals. Although Glover portrays a very challenging and interesting character, his addition to Smallville appears to be a “poles apart” undertaking for this established theater actor. But still his inclusion to the series has given him much diversity and versatility in acting, and has ultimately established his stance on the television loop. Moreover, the series has given him much exposure and opportunity to flaunt his convincingly good acting.
The much-awaited Broadway performance of John Glover will be shown in April this year. In the mean time, fans and spectators can catch a glimpse of Gloverâs brilliant acting expertise on Smallville, which airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM on The CW Network.

Be your Own Press Secretary
Posted by admin
Wouldnât the world be a better place if we each had our own presidential press secretary to answer tough questions and âspinâ our message all day long against any and all adversaries? (It would be great for us perhaps, but Iâm not sure I want to live in a world where everyone is âspinningâ everyone else.)
That said, thereâs something to be learned from the methods that politicians employ to stay in power.
Chief among these is staying on message — i.e., knowing what you want to say and then repeating it with extreme discipline and near-shamelessness, until it sinks in. If thereâs one thing weâve learned in this noisy media age, itâs that simple, un-nuanced messages break through the clutter and hit home with high impact. (Iâm not saying thatâs always a good thing, but itâs a fact of life. Deal with it.)
Itâs no different when youâre attempting to change. Like a politician making headlines for introducing new legislation, if you have a new initiative at work, you have to do something dramatic to announce it. (Reagan taught us that.) For sheer drama, apologizing fits the bill. What could be more theatrical than telling people that youâre sorry for some transgression and youâll try to do better in the future, especially people who think you cannot change?
Donât stop there. You canât just apologize and say youâre trying to do better just once. You have to drill it into people repeatedly, until theyâve internalized the concept.
Itâs the reason politicians in a hard election campaign run the same ads over and over again. Repeating their message — relentlessly — works; it sinks the message deeper into our brains.
I donât want to push this political press secretary analogy too far. Iâm not asking people to obfuscate or display selective memory or avoid questions, all of which are valuable weapons in the press secretary arsenal. All Iâm saying is that you cannot rely on other people to read your mind or take note of the changed behavior youâre displaying. It may be patently obvious to you, but it takes a lot more than a few weeks of behavioral modification for people to notice the new you.
That makes it all the more vital that you proactively control the message of what youâre trying to accomplish. Hereâs how to start acting like your own press secretary.
⢠Treat every day as if it were a press conference during which your colleagues are judging you, waiting to see you trip up. That mindset, where you know people are watching you closely, will boost your self-awareness just enough to remind you to stay on high alert.
⢠Behave as if every day is an opportunity to hit home your message — to remind people that youâre trying really hard. Every day that you fail to do so is a day that you lose a step or two. Youâre backsliding on your promise to fix yourself.
⢠Treat every day as a chance to take on all challengers. There will be people who, privately or overtly, donât want you to succeed. So shed the naiveté and be a little paranoid. If youâre alert to those who want you to fail, youâll know how to handle them.
⢠Think of the process as an election campaign. After all, you donât elect yourself to the position of ânew improved you.â Your colleagues do. Theyâre your constituency. Without their votes, you can never establish that youâve changed.
⢠Think of the process in terms of weeks and months, not just day to day. The best press secretaries are adept at putting out the daily fires, but theyâre also focused on a long-term agenda. You should too. No matter what happens day to day, your long-term goal is to be perceived as fixing an interpersonal problem — to the point where it isnât a problem anymore.
If you can do this, like the best press secretaries, youâll have your personal âpress corpsâ eating out of your hands.
