What are some creative ways to promote a comedy show?
Posted by admin
I am hosting a new comedy show Sundays in Tempe, Arizona. Besides the obvious (MySpace Bulletins, handing out flyers, advertising in the local papers - etc.), what other creative suggestions do you have to get a good crowd at my shows every week?
Have you considered posting a promotion video on Youtube or Google Video? Youtube is extremely popular and if the video makes people laugh, it will probably generate a lot of viewers, thus getting the word around.
Taxi (Season 3) DVD Review
Posted by admin
With its biting humor and eccentric characters, Taxi is widely lauded as one of the top sitcoms in television history. The brainchild of James L. Brooks, whose golden touch played a role in such hits as The Andy Griffith Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Simpsons, Taxi continues to entertain and gather generations of new fans through syndicated reruns. With a superb cast and great writers, the show introduced the world to the comedic talents of Hollywood mainstays like Danny DeVito, Tony Danza, Marilu Henner, Christopher Lloyd, and Andy Kaufman.
Taxi follows the daily operations of the Sunshine Cab Company, a New York City taxi service run by tyrannical dispatcher Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito). De Palma’s self-centered sarcastic remarks are often dispensed from the safety of his pathetically small office in the corner of the body shop, while various employees like Alex Reiger (Judd Hirsch), Tony Banta (Danza), and Elaine Nardo (Henner) socialize and plot against their common enemy. Add foreign mechanic Latka Gravas (Kaufman) to the mix and all the ingredients are in place for hours of endless laughter. As the characters deal with problems of varying degree in their personal lives, the audience is treated to some of the best comedy ever produced for the small screen.
The Taxi (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Louie’s Rival” in which Louie’s girlfriend Zena dumps him for a bartender at Mario’s. Danny DeVito provides another hilarious performance as the heartless Louie… Other notable episodes include “The Costume Party” in which the gang crashes a luxury yacht party in the hopes of meeting some famous people, and “Bobby and the Critic” in which Bobby happens upon one of the theater critics who recently bashed his performance.

Celebrate the Merce Festival in Barcelona with ART
Posted by admin
Barcelona September 13, 2006
24th of September marks the start of a week’s celebration in honor of the Patron Saint of Barcelona, the Mare de Deu de la Merce. Every year the festival puts together groups of musicians from all over the world which perform live in various locations of the city, Plaza del Forum, Avenida de la Catedral, Rambla del Rayal, el Moll de la Fusta, Plaza Catalunya, amongst other areas, transforming the streets into the largest party area of the region.
The Festival officially took place for the first time in 1902, and since then, at the end of September the town bids summer goodbye with a bang and welcomes the cooler months of autumn, through a fantastic blend of tradition, innovation and entertainment. It has become the greatest event on Barcelona’s festival calendar in a true Mediterranean fashion.
As the climate allows celebrations to take place outdoors, there are a number of different activities that satisfy all tastes spread in different locations. Although most of the events, about 500 around the city, are carefully wrapped until the last moment, be certain that you’ll be doing something that involves music, fun, colors, games and constant smile on your face.
Nevertheless, as tradition is one of the key words, a game held every year will remain for 2006, Castells, the human tower. It is one of the highlights, as it is an admirable demonstration of agility, balance and teamwork.
In line with Barcelona’s cultural development you’ll come across figures such as the Gegantes and the Capgrossos that stroll about, representing the Catalan city halls. To accompany them, in the fun parade, are street artists that provoke laughter and surprise through their theatrical and traveling music acts in a colorful pyrotechnic display.
This part of the event has been known to captivate the children the most as they love dynamic displays that play with their imagination, specially the dragons and giants. The audience also participates and interacts with the funny figures, mainly the devils that chase those “foolish” enough to get in their way.
If you are in to good food and fine wine, this event is also for you. Food and wine shows run throughout the festival showcasing local products. Allowing you to taste and buy the best Catalonia has to offer.
Indispensable to these celebrations are the devilish colorful spit fire figures, the Correfocs that precede the most expected spectacle of the Merce Festival, the Piromusical show. The sky is filled with lights and colors thrown together with quality music that create an amazing audio-visual experience. Also animating the skies, you’ll tire your neck catching a glimpse of static hot air balloons, kit displays and other aerial exhibitions that take place throughout the festival on the city’s beaches.
A big music celebrity is usually brought for the festival’s grad finale. For 2005 the spot light went to a local singer and composer Pep Sala, who had the chance to honorably close out La Merce.
And for visitors not to miss a thing, during the weekend of the 24th, transports are out and about 24/7. It is actually the best bet as the streets will be filled with events, parades, fire runs and many people.
It is the perfect opportunity for tourists to feel the true spirit of Barcelona at its best and most colorful dress. The vibrant festival filled with unique spectacles, brig entertainment and something new to all ages, along with the chance to discover a wonderful city.

How is it best to organize a weekly comedy event without my own venue?
Posted by admin
I have this buzz for establishing a comedy club which is non-existent in my city.I have somethings worked out but I don't know what the best approach to have when consulting venue owners.Or should I just source more finance to rent my own venue?
Don't risk your own money by committing to renting premises before you've proved whether there's a market for your business. It will cost you more to book venues initially but it saves being tied into a lease that you can't get out of without severe financial penalties.
When approaching venues, check that your target audience matches their target customers. If your comedy acts are aimed at bachelor parties and the venue is for 18-30 singles, you won't get very far.
Are you based in the UK? If so, contact your local Business Link for help in setting up your business. They'll give you guidance on making your plans clearer so that you have a better approach to venues.
Good luck!

How does Comedy Central get away with the uncensored movies?
Posted by admin
Every Saturday Comedy Central shows uncensored movies at 1 am, meaning there is no nudity but there IS a lot of swearing that goes uncensored, how do they get away with it?
Because the ban on certain words are covered only over public air ways, not cable television. Basically cable television is not available to everyone unless they subscribe to cable service. Since cable is not a right, but a paid service, channels on cable and satalite television can opperate with out the restrictions that public airwaves have.
